Holiday Letter – December 21, 2022

December 21, 2022

Dear Community – Family and Friends,

The holiday season is upon us and it is good to see our residents coming together once again, with masks on, to experience the joy of special events.

We remain vigilant as COVID is still a very real presence for a third holiday season. I can’t help but reflect on those early days asking residents, team and families to “hold on for one more week”. Little did we know how many weeks that would be. We have come together through many months of this pandemic with energy, resilience and kindness. While this has been exceptionally hard, we recognize we have many reasons to celebrate.

We are excited to share that Fairview and Parkwood have been honoured for our culture of kindness. We are proud to be one of 50 Canadian Companies recognized as Waterstone Canada’s Most Admired Corporate Cultures 2022. We extend a special thank you to our staff who continue to embrace and demonstrate kindness as a value reflected in our daily lives.

The new Delphine and Lloyd Martin Apartments is making steady progress. The lower level is done, the parking garage concrete has been poured and we are out of the ground and building up. We thank our many generous donors, our Land and Building committee, MartinSimmons Architects and VanDel Construction – and the weather – for making this possible. It is incredibly exciting to think that by this time next year, we will be very close to welcoming our new residents.

In the second half of 2023, Fairview is hoping to begin construction on its long-term care home which will result in 192 beds, more than doubling its current size. We will provide updates for staff, residents, families, donors, the community and our many partners as we move forward.

In the spirit of the holiday season, please take time to be kind to yourself, each other and the community. We also invite you to embrace kindness by supporting our giving trees which ensure long-term care residents each receive a special gift. We encourage everyone to make wise decisions around your health and protecting those around you.

As we say goodbye to 2022, we are deeply grateful for what we have been able to accomplish with your help. We look forward to welcoming 2023 with tremendous excitement as we plan events for Fairview’s 80th anniversary and Parkwood’s 60th anniversary.

Thank you, all, for your ongoing support and kindness. We extend our best wishes for a peaceful, kind and healthy holiday and new year.

With kindness,

Elaine Shantz

President & Chief Executive Officer
